Mokulito is a wonderful, ethereal, almost ephemeral printing technique which I was introduced to in 2025. Moku from the Japanese for wood (mokuzai) and lito an abbreviation of lithography, Mokulito is a lithographic style of print making. I particularly love the painterly quality of the technique, and how well it lends itself to chine-collé (adding coloured papers as part of the printing process). A finite number of prints can be made from each block, with the grain of the wooden block becoming part of the printed image. I look forward to exploring this technique further in the year ahead.
